I have been dialing and making calls until my paws are about to fall off. I’ve been doing my best to look into the status of international cats for the upcoming 2008 presidential election. As you know, the United States has laws that require one to be a citizen of the United States. Citizenship is automatic if you are born in this country or born to parents who are citizens and you are born outside the United States.
I have legislation proposed that all cats who are born to American shorthairs (even of mixed breed) and American Longhairs (even of mixed breed) be automatically assigned US citizenship so that they can apply to vote because it’s obvious that they have relatives back in line sometime in the United States.
Now, my problem is that there are many purebreds that obviously did not come from the United States. The Sphynx for example traces lineage back to Canada. The British Shorthair doesn’t trace back to the US. The Siamese comes from Siam (which humans have foolishly renamed Thailand–who wants to be a Thai-amese?). So I have a group of the finest immigration attorneys working day and night to figure out how we can get these cats to vote, or I will as soon as they stop laughing at me.
Hmm, this is a very complex issue. International affairs can be very tricky.
ps: My Mommie got a new SLR camera a few weeks ago. She got the Canon Rebel XTi and she loves it!
wait i’m not american? – Miles
Am I a cat without a country?
We could jus’ vote ya queen of the world.
Thanks for working on this important issue, Chey. 🙂 Yep, Sphynx originated in Canada, but in order to develop the breed, Sphynx were crossed with many breeds, including American shorthairs, Devon Rex, and even Siamese! (Pointed coloured Sphynx, like my dam, a blue point Sphynx, come from the crosses between Sphynx and Siamese.)
You are so tireless at your working! What a great candidate you are to work so hard for ALL constituents.
I actually am Thai-amese! Haha, my mother’s name is Thai.
I do like Catzee’s idea however…..
(I see Daisy’s mom has the XTi- cool! We just have the XT)
You are really tireless in your work to enfranchise all kitties. I hope you can work something out.
Long live our soon to be President Chey!

Oh how fabulous – I could vote and influence the future of a whole nother country!! Love the sound of that. Keep up the great work, Chey!! xx
Just as I predicted, Chey. The response from cats outside the US is very positive and they appreciate your efforts on their behalf! Even if it means holding a special session of Congress, cat voting laws must be changed to allow a special election for all international cats.
